I strive for stability and a comfortable level of resistance in my reeds, with a relatively small tip opening so you can relax and blow instead of biting to manage the pitch. Medium is my own preferred playing strength, and there is more resistance to it than most commercial “Mediums”.

About the Staples: I find that the basic synthetic tubes are just fine, and younger students tend to prefer them because they slide easily in and out of the oboe.
The thinner-walled Chiarugi tubes offer a more immediate response and a more vibrant sound.
